Councilman Mike Bonin, whose 11th District includes the Gateway area, spoke to board and executive members at their annual meeting on November 8.

During the meeting, he discussed some of the recent work to support local businesses in the area, including the Century Streetscape Project - a plan to renovate and upgrade sidewalks and pedestrian safety in the area; the LAX Northside Plan - a plan to create community-serving retail and office space in the land north of LAX; and his vision for smart and sustainable development in the area.

Bonin also discussed his effort to increase the number of police officers on patrol in the area.

“We’re doing our best to get more officers on patrol, not behind desks,” he said. “By the end of January, we will have more than 550 additional officers on patrol throughout the city.”

Bonin said the city is also dedicated to making improvements at LAX and the surrounding area before Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympic Games.

“The city is dedicating significant city resources for that revitalization,” said Bonin, who added that the area is destined to be the beneficiary of improved airport access, better public transit options and a variety of beautification efforts.
