Gateway LA is currently seeking to fill the position of Executive Director.
Position Summary:
The Executive Director will be the public face, in coordination with the Board President, of the Gateway Los Angeles PBID, establishing themselves as a local civic and business leader. The Executive Director will have a strategic mindset and will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the advancement of Gateway LA’s objectives, overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the BID, and advocating for the organization’s interests in the region. The Executive Director will have both internal and external facing responsibilities, including management of all Gateway LA staff, implementation of specific programs and initiatives, and cultivating relationships with local business and political leadership. The Executive Director will partner closely with the executive committee and board of directors to chart Gateway Los Angeles’ future growth and initiatives to fulfill the organization’s mission.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Lead, manage, monitor, and develop the daily operations of the GTLA staff.
• Ensure that all programs operate consistently and within the organization’s mission and budget.
• Make certain compliance with all City of LA contractual requirements and best practices.
• Prepare reports and background information for the bi-monthly board of directors’ meetings and work closely with the board of directors to assess and address issues affecting the organization.
• Ensure that GTLA is adhering to the organization’s management plan, delivering status reports to the executive committee and board.
• Manage the PBID Renewal process and preparation of a new management plan.
• Oversee negotiation of all contracts for external vendor support for the organization.
• Provide timely, accurate information to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and members on governmental initiatives, legislation, and studies with potential impacts on GTLA property owners.
• Establish and monitor policies and procedures for fiscal accountability of GTLA, including adherence to audit policies and processes.
• Guide the Board of Directors in developing a multi-year strategic plan and implement the key findings and objectives to help further the goals of the organization.
• Seek new opportunities to improve the GTLA image, economics, and growth in its multi-faceted role as a growing hospitality, airport, and business center.
• Develop and pursue creative funding options for the improvement of the GTLA District with local, regional, state, and federal agencies.
• Establish and grow relationships with key staff and decision-makers at City/County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles International Airport, City of Inglewood, LAHSA, and Hollywood Park Entertainment District.
• Develop strong working relations with LAPD Pacific Division, LAWA PD, LA City Attorney, and all other pertinent law enforcement agencies.
• Manage day-to-day office needs and supply necessary materials to effectively manage operations.
• Represent GTLA on key regional stakeholder groups and initiatives to ensure appropriate input.
• Identify and coordinate areas of mutual interest or concern with other advocacy groups such as the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, LA Tourism, Westchester Town Center PBID, and LA BID Consortium.
• Contribute to the community and act as a strong corporate citizen representing GTLA.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• Strong written and communication skills including confident and collaborative public speaking.
• Demonstrated management effectiveness as an inspirational leader and team builder at the staff, committee, and membership levels.
• Experience with local executive and legislative processes.
• Proven ability to build strategic alliances with a variety of public and private stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications:
• MBA or other advanced degree.
• 10 plus years of experience in a leadership role with public sector, private, or non-profit organizations.
• Experience with land use and redevelopment issues and challenges.
• Success in taking an organization to the next level of its development and influence.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong financial management.
• Superior interpersonal skills to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Advanced skills in working with Board of Directors.
• Enhanced community & public relations skills.
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite, QuickBooks, Canva, Square Space
Demands:
This role is considered in-person based out of the LAX area office with limited hybrid capability.
The physical demands of the job duties are performed in an office environment. This role requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Compensation:
The Executive Director is an exempt position. The anticipated salary range is $100,000 – $125,000/year with the potential for a 10% performance bonus at the end of the first year. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
